From School Supplies to Weddings: News from Share Ghana
Newsletter September 2026

Dear readers,
Here is another edition of the Share Ghana Foundation newsletter. We have had a wonderful spring, with all kinds of activities and fundraising initiatives taking place both in the Netherlands and Ghana. In this newsletter, we are delighted to share some of these highlights with you.

Progress on the School Supplies
When Share Ghana was first established, providing school packages for children in Sumbrungu (near Bolgatanga) was one of our key objectives. These packages provide the essential items children need to attend school, such as clothing, shoes, a backpack, pens, pencils, and notebooks.
We have now been able to provide scholarships to 180 children for the third year in a row, representing a total amount of almost €5,000. The funds are managed on our behalf by Stichting Wemnet, our partner organisation in Ghana.
“This year, the average number of students per class is 36, compared to 25 students when we first started providing scholarships. A result we can be proud of!”

A Roof for Dreams: What’s Happening in Zaarantinga
In Zaarantinga, the local primary school is a growing and vibrant school. However, it is facing a significant shortage of classrooms.
Last spring, our foundation joined forces with Wilde Ganzen during the Wilde Week to raise funds. It was a very successful campaign: through our various fundraising activities, we raised a total of €30,000. This means we have already secured almost 70% of the amount needed—far more than we had dared to dream of.
To begin construction, of course, the necessary preparations need to be completed. We are working closely with Stichting Wemnet in Ghana, which represents our interests locally and ensures that everything runs smoothly. The final arrangements with the local authorities and the construction company are almost complete. This means that construction will begin in a few weeks, and we will be able to transfer the first contribution towards the construction of the three classrooms. A total of €45,000 is needed for the project, of which €30,000 has already been raised. Thanks to this, we can also realise the project sooner than initially planned. Of course, our fundraising efforts will continue: donations are very welcome, and next year we will once again take part in Wilde Ganzen’s Wilde Week.

To stay up to date with developments affecting foundations like ours, Sebastiaan and Lotte attended the Day of Philanthropy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam on 26 June. The event featured research findings on charitable giving in the Netherlands, which were particularly interesting and relevant to us as a foundation. All in all, it was an insightful and informative day.

Would You Like to Join Us in Ghana?
We have heard from several friends and supporters that they would be interested in joining a working visit to the projects of our foundation in Ghana.
We are currently exploring whether we can organise such a visit. To help us plan, it would be useful to know if there are more people who might be interested in joining. Participants would, of course, cover their own travel and other expenses.
During the visit, there will be opportunities to help with improvements and renovations at the schools involved in our projects.
Interested in joining us? Send us an email!

What fundraising activities have taken place in the Netherlands?
In May, we took part in the open day at Van de Bogert Organic Pig Farm in Hedel, where we sold, among other things, sausages. This raised a wonderful €1,250.
The thrift store De Spullewaard in Zaltbommel donated €5,000 to Share Ghana. We are very grateful for this generous contribution and will use the funds primarily to support the scholarships.
We also held collections in several churches, all of which generated wonderful contributions. These collections took place in the Protestant congregations of Kerkdriel and Sint-Michielsgestel.
